Two Cases of Spontaneous Perforation of Common Bile Duct in Infants

Abstract
The spontaneous perforation of common bile duct in infants is extremely rare. Review of the literature reveals that the disease in infants is different than that in adults since most have long subacute course before operation, and in spite of toxicity of bile in the peritonial cavity the mortality is lower than in adults. In most cases of the disease in infants the etiology is unknown. Most surgeons have recommended drainage of the peritonial cavity, exploration of the common bile duct, and suture of the perforation. In one of our two cases, a T-tube choledochostolny through the perforation opening was performed which had the advantage of confirming the normal biliary ductal system by visualization of it by T-tube cholangiography in addition to the postoperative drainage of contents in the biliary system. The two cases were completely healed without complication.
